Benefits of a healthy shampoo

Why should you use a good shampoo for your hair?

A good shampoo will remove the dirt in your hair and cleanse the scalp, cleansing each hair strand. If you don’t regularly clean your hair then a build-up of dirt can damage your hair and scalp and your scalp can become itchy. Poor hair and scalp health can lead to hair loss.

Benefits of a good sulphate free shampoo –

Shampoos often contain Sulphates to help clean as they are a very effective detergent. Quite a few people don’t have any problems with the sulphate in the shampoos, however shampoos that don’t include Sulphate are a lot kinder on the hair and scalp. If you have already started to experience thinning hair then Sulphates can make the problem worse. Whilst cheap shampoos cause no problems for some people, Sulphates weaken hair follicles making hair brittle and prone to breakages. If you have sensitive skin, Sulphates can also be harmful to the scalp or if used over a long period of time it can cause aggravation and itching. Sulphates can also react to the chemicals in hair colourants causing them to fade quicker as it is a much harsher substance than other shampoo detergents. Using a Sulphate shampoo can be fine as a one off however over time it can weaken and damage hair also preventing hair from retaining natural oils.

Other benefits of a good shampoo –

Organic products gently infuse your hair follicles and skin cells with natural minerals, herbal extracts and oils. Natural ingredients such as organic tea tree can help address skin conditions such as dandruff and scalp irritation. If you are looking for a shampoo that stimulates healthy hair, look for products that contain Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil, as they are natural moisturisers. If you need enhanced shine, choose something with organic Shea Butter.

Does adding sugar to your shampoo help the health of your hair?

In the beauty world, sugar has been getting good reviews when used in conjunction with shampoo.  According to dermatologist Dr. Francesca Fusco adding a tablespoon to our shampoo can exfoliate your scalp and help moisturise your hair. Fusco recommends only using the sugar-shampoo trick once every three to five washes to avoid over-exfoliation. Just like sugar in a diet, moderation seems to be key!
